Privacy Policy

Glyphometer is a free, advertising-supported character counter and text formatter that runs in your browser. The site uses Google AdSense integration for advertising on the homepage and Studio when ads are enabled by the publisher. This policy describes how advertising and other website features handle information. Ad availability can differ depending on the live site configuration, visitor location, and privacy choices. The editor works without creating an account or sending your writing to a text-processing server.

1. Information involved in using the site

Editor text and locally saved drafts. The text you type, paste, preview, and format is processed by JavaScript on your device. A draft is automatically stored in your browser's local storage under the site's origin so it can be restored on a later visit in the same browser. The site does not upload draft contents, collect them in an operator-accessible database, or share draft text with social networks. Copying to your clipboard and downloading a text file are actions you initiate on your own device.

Display and tool preferences stored in your browser. Glyphometer also saves non-account interface preferences using the browser’s localStorage feature. The glyphometer-ui-preferences-v1 entry records the platform counter layout (list or tiles), the active platform filter, whether counters are sorted by remaining space, the formatting tools you checked, and the platform selected for the post preview. These settings are restored on later visits using the same browser and site origin. Preference storage does not contain the text of your draft. For visitors upgrading from a previous version, the former glyphometer-counter-layout key may be read once and then removed. We do not receive these preferences on a server or use them for advertising profiles.

Technical website requests. When you visit the website, the hosting and delivery provider, Cloudflare, necessarily handles network requests. Those requests can include an IP address, browser and device information, requested URLs, approximate location derived from an IP address, request times, and information used for security and delivery. Cloudflare may process and retain these records according to its own practices. Glyphometer has no account-registration form, visitor message form, or independent analytics script in this version.

2. Purposes and sharing

Local drafts restore your writing and saved preferences restore your layout, filters, preview, and formatting selections. Technical request data helps Cloudflare deliver and secure the website. Advertising can help pay for providing Glyphometer without a subscription. When Google AdSense advertising is enabled, Google and participating ad partners may receive website-visit and device information directly from your browser to deliver and measure ads, prevent fraud, and, where permitted and configured, personalize advertising. Depending on the circumstances, these advertising disclosures may constitute “sharing” under California privacy law. We do not intentionally transmit the content typed into the editor to advertising providers or social media platforms.

3. Storage, retention, and your choices

Locally saved drafts remain in your browser until you select Clear, clear this site’s browser storage, or your browser removes the data. Clear removes the draft, but does not reset the saved interface preferences; to delete both, clear Glyphometer site data in your browser settings. There is no site account or server-side draft history. The site uses localStorage for the draft and preferences. Cloudflare may use cookies or similar mechanisms for security and website delivery. When ads are active, Google and other advertising vendors may place or read cookies and similar identifiers. The retention periods and choices for information managed by those providers are governed by their policies and settings. Browser controls can restrict cookies or delete stored site data, although some website or advertising functions may be affected.

4. Advertising, Google AdSense, and third-party cookies

Glyphometer uses Google AdSense as its advertising service. The homepage and Studio contain designated advertising spaces. Advertisements are shown on a deployment only when the publisher has enabled the advertising integration with an approved account; an empty or hidden ad space does not itself load an ad or place an advertising cookie.

When advertising is active, third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies, web beacons, IP addresses, and other identifiers to serve and measure ads, control how often an ad appears, detect fraud, and improve ad delivery. Google and its partners can use advertising cookies to show ads based on your previous visits to Glyphometer and/or other websites or apps. Depending on the applicable privacy controls, ads may be personalized or non-personalized. Your browser may transmit the page URL, IP address, browser or device information, and ad interactions to advertising providers. Glyphometer does not intentionally include what you type into the editor in ad requests.

You can learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services, review Google’s advertising technologies, and manage personalized advertising through Google My Ad Center. You can also explore opt-outs offered by participating third-party advertising companies at AboutAds.info. Disabling personalized ads does not necessarily remove advertisements or prevent all data processing needed for ad delivery, measurement, or security.

Advertising partners have their own privacy practices. Ads may contain links to other websites, which operate under separate policies. Merely typing in the editor does not itself send your draft text to any social-media website.

5. California privacy rights and browser signals

California law may give eligible residents rights to know, access, correct, or delete personal information and to opt out of the sale or sharing of their personal information by covered businesses. “Sharing” can include disclosures for cross-context behavioral advertising even when no money is exchanged. Where personalized ads are enabled, advertising providers may receive identifiers and browsing activity in ways that could count as sharing, depending on the operator’s activities and applicable law. Glyphometer does not independently maintain user accounts or a server-side database of editor drafts; locally saved draft text and preferences can be removed using the controls described above.

Businesses covered by the California Consumer Privacy Act that sell or share personal information must honor applicable opt-out preference signals, including Global Privacy Control (GPC), and provide required opt-out methods. GPC is different from the older Do Not Track setting. The downloadable static site does not, by itself, implement a site-wide advertising opt-out request system or GPC-responsive ad controls; these require additional deployment configuration before advertising practices that trigger those obligations are used. Google’s ad personalization settings are useful controls for Google ads but are not necessarily a replacement for an operator’s own legally required opt-out method.

Whether the full California Consumer Privacy Act applies to the site operator depends on the operator’s circumstances and statutory thresholds. Nothing in this policy limits rights that apply to you under law. If advertising is enabled on a live Glyphometer deployment, the publisher is responsible for providing any additional notices, choices, and ways to contact it that the law requires.

6. Children

Glyphometer is a general-purpose writing utility, not directed specifically to children under 13. It does not request ages, names, school information, or registration details. Advertising services may have additional restrictions for younger audiences, and California law provides special protections concerning the sale or sharing of personal information of visitors known to be under 16. The publisher must configure advertising accordingly and comply with applicable age-related rules.

7. Security and changes

Draft processing is local to your browser, but no internet service or device can be guaranteed completely secure. Avoid entering information that you would not want saved on your device. Material changes to this policy will be announced by updating this page and its effective date before or when the changed practices take effect. Review it periodically, particularly when advertising or third-party integrations change.

8. Practical privacy help

To remove draft data, use the editor’s Clear button. To delete both drafts and saved preferences, clear Glyphometer site data (including localStorage) in your browser settings. To manage Google ad personalization, visit Google My Ad Center. This static website has no user accounts or operator-accessible draft database. Information processed by Cloudflare for hosting is subject to Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
